DEATH GRIP

July 29, 2012 by Andrew Skeates

Well, and non-surprisingly, it’s brilliant. While not as thick on the ground as in ‘Contour’, the fight scenes are absolutely worth the wait. Crisp, full of creativity and in ‘Death Grip’s case, often bloody, The Stunt People continue to excel in fight choreography and creativity: from the aforementioned toilet fight scene, to a wicked knife fight scene (which shows you don’t need lots of ridiculous editing to convince a viewer something cool is actually happening!) to the one-on-one between Jacobus and Yong Bosch (we should have had more of this, please!) the fights are full on, toe-to-toe, fist-to-fist confrontations. Not to mention continuously inventive (Kevin’s trick of imagining what he thinks the fight will go like and then the actual, much more painful, reality unfolding) and fun to watch (the genius fight in the dark!).

DEATH GRIP: A MUST WATCH FOR KUNG-FU MOVIE LOVERS!
July 21, 2012 By

DEATH GRIP is a great example of what talented people can do with so very little.  This is a kung-fu movie that mixes high velocity action scenes with imaginative sometimes funny character moments.  This is a character driven story.

DEATH GRIP
July 15, 2012 By Phil

There was one Donny Yuen film, some awful stuff that ranged from fun to unwatchable, and a really impressive indie effort from The Stunt People that reminded me of the old Jackie Chan films, both in terms of action and physical humor.

DEATH GRIP REVIEW
July 13, 2012 By Kelly Miller

Death Grip is a film that took a lot of risks and showed the team’s growth. It has a deeper story and more interesting fights. The team’s humor has also grown, with excellent timing and delivery. It’s safe to say that Death Grip succeeded on everything that it set out to do, and made a lot of people sit up and take notice as well. Death Grip is easily worth a watch, but warrants a buy for anyone who appreciates martial arts films. You can tell it was made by people who love their craft, and it’s one that will compliment anyone’s DVD library.

GET YOUR KNIFE FIGHT ON WITH THIS DEATH GRIP CLIP
June 19, 2012 by Hubert Vigilla

Death Grip is an indie martial arts movie by writer/director/star Eric Jacobus. It centers on a sought-after coin, a satanic cult that steals it, and a man who must save his autistic brother. It’s a nice set-up for some no-frills ass kickery, like the above knife fight. The camera isn’t too shaky, the movement of the actors isn’t obscured, and the choreography looks pretty stellar.

DEATH GRIP RELEASES NEW FIGHT SEQUENCE
June 19, 2012 by Matthew Kelly

As the name implies Stunt People is a group of stuntmen and women who have branched out to make movies of their own. They have been working on Death Grip for a few years and I’m excited that the film will finally be coming out just in time for Comic Con this year. In order to promote their June 30th premiere the team has released a new fight sequence clip to get you pumped up!

DEATH GRIP CHANNELS ’80S ACTION FILMS
June 18, 2012 by Liam Jose

Jacobus obviously has a feel for choreography, and is an excellent fighter. The clip looks tight, fun, bloody – and most importantly, for these kinds of DTV actioners – inventive. Death Grip concerns Jacobus as a caterer who has to get the coin of Judas back from a cult who have taken his brother for some reason, but really, the plot isn’t the key here – it’s how much fun do I think I’ll have?

WATCH KNIFE FIGHT CLIP FROM ERIC JACOBUS’ ACTIONER DEATH GRIP
June 16, 2012 by Al Young

With the theatrical premiere for the Indie martial arts action flick Death Grip just a few weeks away, director/writer/lead actor Eric Jacobus has posted a knife fight scene on his youtube channel.  No BS shaky cam, rapid editing or close-up shots.  Its just two deadly guys going at it in full speed, fighting continuously through a long complex series of steps while being shot in a single take. This is an exciting piece of ass-kicking.

AN INTERVIEW WITH ERIC JACOBUS
June 5, 2012

Here at Far East Films we’re huge fans of Eric Jacobus and The Stunt People, and as such could quite easily give Eric the kind of overly complimentary introduction that would even make his mother blush. However, I think the biggest compliment we can pay him is that the majority of martial arts movie fans out there will already be familiar his awesome action shorts.

TRAILER: ‘DEATH GRIP’ INVOLVES A BUNCH OF DUDES IN ROBES BEATING EACH OTHER UP… AND IT LOOKS AWESOME!
March 31, 2012 By

Admittedly I haven’t heard anything about this movie until the trailer came out.  But what a trailer! We don’t see many American martial arts movies come out — frankly Asia has cornered the market on them since the genre has been invented — so I’m impressed that Death Grip (the title already sounds like it fits a classic 1970s kung fu, as does the poster) already looks like a winner.

CHECK OUT SOME ASS KICKING, BONE CRUNCHING ACTION IN THE FRANTIC TRAILER FOR NEW MARTIAL ARTS FLICK ‘DEATH GRIP’’
March 28, 2012 By Matt Wavish

Death Grip, also known as Rise and Fail, is directed by Eric Jacobus and this is only his second feature film as a director on his own. In Death Grip, the talented fighter directs, edits, writes and stars in what looks to be an insane action flick. The trailer has just been released, and it’s a whopper, dispensing with the plot details almost instantly and heading straight into the action. The trailer is quite literally almost two minutes of fighting and it looks awesome!

CONTOUR DIRECTOR ERIC JACOBUS WISHES TO PUT YOU IN HIS DEATH GRIP
March 27, 2012 By Todd Rigney

Although I loved Eric Jacobus’ 2006 martial arts flick “Contour”, I’d completely forgotten about the flick until I stumbled across a trailer for the filmmaker’s latest endeavor “Death Grip”. For a low-budget kung fu movie, “Contour” was severely badass, and I suspect that “Death Grip” will be no different.

DEATH GRIP TRAILER: PUNCH THE SATANIC GUYS IN HOODED ROBES!
March 27, 2012 By Peter Martin

The new trailer for Eric Jacobus’ Death Grip dispenses with the story in about 10 seconds and then gets on to its real attraction: close-action martial-arts kicking and punching, mostly by a single man against a bunch of guys in hooded robes. And what fighting it is!

BONUS POST: DEATH GRIP TRAILER
March 24, 2012 By Kelly Miller

I mentioned this in today’s Finishing Blow, but I didn’t have time to get to it until now. Hopefully you’ve heard about this film enough to know about it, so I’ll just be quiet and let the movie speak for itself.

WHAT’S IN A TITLE? RISE AND FAIL OR DEATH GRIP?
February 7, 2012 By Kelly Miller

It was announced today that Rise and Fail would be, most likely, referred to as Death Grip once again. Here was their reasoning for going back to the original title:

While the change to “Rise And Fail” felt more appropriate for the film’s stronger story, we do agree that it can be a bit confusing in telling what kind of a film it actually is. Whereas the title Death Grip very clearly says, “this is an action film.”

RISE AND FAIL NEEDS YOUR HELP
September 22, 2011 By Kelly Miller

I know I wrote about Rise and Fail (formerly Death Grip) already, but I needed to address another issue. It has recently been posted that the Rise and Fail production is running out of funding. Again, these guys are not a big production, and they are literally starving themselves to get the most out of the budget that they have. If you’ve seen any of the footage that’s been posted, you can tell that these guys know what they are doing.

A first look at The Stunt People’s upcoming indie actioner DEATH GRIP is now available in a new teaser trailer. For those who still don’t know, The Stunt People, fronted by Eric Jacobus, are torchbearers for ’80s-era Hong Kong screen fighting when action stars like Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Chin Siu-ho were in their prime. While modern mainstream filmmakers have moved on to excessive editing, wirework and CGI to produce their fight sequences, these guys are doing it old school.
