Based on recent feedback and recommendations from both our sales agent and our fans, we’ve realized we might have actually had the title right the first time. So as much as this may make us seem like hypocrites, it looks likely we will be renaming this film back to it’s original title (and original FB page), Death Grip.
While the change to “Rise And Fail” felt more appropriate for the film’s stronger story, we do agree that it can be a bit confusing in telling what kind of a film it actually is. Whereas the title “Death Grip“ very clearly says, “this is an action film.” And in the end, story aside, we do want people to see this first and foremost as an action movie.
This type of title change does happen frequently in the action genre, often due to regional differences in marketing. A recent example is Jet Li’s Danny the Dog, which was retitled Unleashed for its American release. Fans of the original title kept the “Danny the Dog” naming convention, so likewise if you want to mention “Rise And Fail” to us we’ll honor the naming preference. But for the sake of marketing the film and allowing us to continue doing films in the future, the formal name is most likely to stay Death Grip.
